Sweet Little Boys Candid Portraits

Captured these candid photos of these two sweet little boys — brothers— wedding brunch last weekend. I had to blog them separately from the event to show you their sweet little faces and highlight the sweet innocent beauty of a young child. I always love catching sneak peeks of kids at ceremonies like weddings and family gatherings. I like to document what that little person is doing amongst all of the chaos of what the adults are involved with. The baby of course isn’t really aware of the events but at 12 weeks old this cutie was wide-eyed and very content! The first one though of his big brother is fascinating and I can’t stop staring at it.

And this one I love in color but also in black and white as well:

And look at this! Staring straight at me! What a serious face! Love it!

Special Wedding Brunch for an Awesome Couple! Liz +Engle

I had the pleasure of photographing a brunch for a lovely couple. Liz and Engle who were recently married in their home state of Kentucky. Liz’s parents live here in Columbia, where she grew up and the couple wanted to have some time with family and friends who couldn’t make it to the ceremony in Kentucky. I was honored to be asked to document this day for them! The bride and groom were able to wear their wedding attire which was fun and festive and very unique! I loved it. The colors of Liz’s hat and dress popped right out of the photograph and contrasted well with the bright sunny weather. Inside they  had a mural on the wall that Engle had painted where we took a few photos with some awesome red balloons!  Liz’s hat was handmade by one of her relatives, and is reminiscent of the bouquet that her sister had at her wedding in 2009 that I helped photograph along with Keith Dixon Studios. I love seeing how families grow and change and add babies to their clans! It was wonderful seeing (some of my) friends there as well.  Liz and Engle, thank you for having me there! I enjoyed seeing you and capturing this special day.

Also please leave a comment and share!  When Liz and Engle receive comments from 25 unique individuals, I’ll send them a free 11×14″ print!

Snow, Ice, and an Earthquake all in One Week + iTunes Giveaway!

This post was supposed to go out yesterday, Friday Feb 14, but we had a very, very unusual occurrence lastnight that completely distracted me from finishing the editing my photos for this post: an earthquake! Yes, an earthquake in Columbia, SC!! It was so unreal. All of a sudden the house started to shake, furniture rattled on the floor. I was sitting down at the dining room table and my entire body rattled along with the house. It was crazy! I immediately posted to Facebook and it turns out friends as far north as Tennessee and as far west as Atlanta, felt it! This my friends, is what the young hipsters would call “cray cray.” Apparently the epicenter was in southwestern South Carolina near Edgefield, and the earthquake was a 4.1 in magnitude. Not huge but definitely not normal for us around these parts! Now onto the snow and ice and the iTunes giveaway details!

Snow in the South is also an unusual event. The last time it snowed was in 2010 and the time before that 2002 and 2003. Being from Pennsylvania, one would think I would not enjoy the snow here in the South but I actually LOVE  it when it snows. I love the smell of the cold crisp air, the overcast, cloudy skies when its snowing, and the quiet and stillness. I am sure I am not the only one who feels this way.  Here are some of my snaps from the snow at the end January. I wish I could have tried the magnificent snowflake images like the Russian photographer Alexey Kljatov, or the beautiful and delicate frozen bubbles taken in -9º F by Angela Kelly. Maybe next time! Some of these images are macro photos. I am writing a blog post for another day about macro photography. Besides portraits its my favorite type of photography. I never get tired of photographing things up close. For this week’s giveaway I am offering one of my blog commentators a $10.00 iTunes gift card! Who needs some new music on their iPhone?  I know I do! For a chance to win, all you have to do is leave a comment on my blog below and share this post using the nifty buttons below to Facebook or Twitter… or both!  Winner will be announced on Saturday, February 22, 2014. Please share this giveaway with your friends and family, anyone can enter! See the Rafflecopter box below the photos to enter.

And not macros of course, but I love these anyway. Beauty is all around us if we take the time to look closely. Thanks for looking at my work and for sharing it.

  • Dawn Del Rossi - Having moved here from MA (although I grew up in the South) I miss the snow too and really enjoyed going out and playing. Most of my kiddos enjoyed it as well except for Carmella who very adamantly declared, “I HATE SNOW!!!!!” And Nicholas went out in short sleeves and barefoot with my camera and got some beautiful shots.ReplyCancel

  • Adam king - I love the snow photos, but can do without the snow…and the earthquakes!ReplyCancel
